Adopting

HARP takes in homeless cats and dogs and finds appropriate homes for them through weekly adoption events. Animals within our program are cared for and evaluated by foster families. Many animals come from local shelters, including the Antioch Animal Shelter and Contra Costa County Animal Services in Martinez as well as from people who are no longer able to care for their pet.

The animals that come into our program are kept in foster homes where they cared for and evaluated to understand the environment in which the animal would do best. It is important to understand if the animal gets along with other cats or dogs, is good with children, and whether they would do well alone during the day or do best with someone who is home most of the time.

We are required by law to spay or neuter any pet we adopt out. It is our policy to have animals immunized and microchiped.

If you are interested in one of our animals, please call (925) 431-8546.

All animals are:

  • Spayed / Neutered
  • Current on shots
  • Microchiped
  • Evaluated

Sometimes arrangements can be made to meet the dog outside our normal adoption venues.Dog photo If you would like to move forward, the next step is to fill out a Dog Adoption Application.
