Thank You Maddie’s Fund

Karen KopsH.A.R.P. is very appreciative of Maddie’s Fund for the financial support it has given to local shelters and rescue groups for the past four years. The annual Adoptathon in June allows us to pull more animals from shelters and accept surrenders from people who are down on their luck. Many people cannot keep their beloved pets because of a foreclosed home or other serious financial or health conditions.

The funds raised through the Adoptathon pay for veterinary and foster expenses for the dogs and cats we rescue. Adopters go home with a new friend without paying a fee. Participants like H.A.R.P. receive a grant from Maddie’s Fund for each pet adopted during the two-day Adoptathon. The grant is between $500 -$2,000 depending on the age and physical condition of the pet. H.A.R.P. placed 64 cats and 37 dogs in their forever homes on June 1 and 2, 2013. Across the nation, 8,432 dogs and cats were adopted!

Maddie’s Fund Treatable Assistance Program allows us to pull senior and ill dogs and cats from shelters that we could not possibly have even considered before because of the excessive cost to treat them. Maddie’s Fund pays the group $700 for dogs and cats seven years and older and/or $700 may be granted if the animal has a condition that is treatable, such as dermatitis, diabetes, enlarged heart, and cherry eye. H.A.R.P. pulled four dogs that qualified for this grant. Sammy, who is featured on the front cover, is one of the fortunate dogs we were able to rescue thanks to Maddie’s Fund.
